Labor-Intensive Processes Demand Test Transformation
Serving more than 600,000 citizens, the City of Memphis council is comprised of several government agencies dedicated to delivering reliable, high-quality public services. Memphis is the largest city in Tennessee, and the 25th largest in the United States by population.
To support the delivery of quality services to Memphis, the council relied on a series of integrated enterprise applications to handle resource planning across the organization. But managing the testing of multiple modules including core HR, performance, absences, learning, and benefits, along with their pre-requisites, had become a heavily labor-intensive task.
Reliance on manual effort also made it difficult to assess the impact of frequent releases, and to effectively adapt to changes introduced through frequent and fast release cycles.
In a bid to increase efficiency, the City of Memphis needed a partner that could help them reimagine their testing processes and rapidly accelerate new feature adoption, bringing test automation to bear.

Sutherland began the transformation with a proactive impact assessment of functionality changes and test case updates for continuous quarterly build releases to begin road mapping the right solution and transformation for the client’s needs.
Leveraging our innovative proprietary test automation platform, Sutherland CloudTestr™, we built test scenarios for multiple modules of the application under test (AUT) into a comprehensive regression suite ensuring coverage of all major functionalities.
Next, automated release processes were implemented, eliminating the need for manual intervention and enabling the generation of downloadable test documentation. This enabled seamless execution of releases and ensured compliance with audit requirements. The solution delivered full test transformation for the City of Memphis. Testing processes were streamlined, overall efficiency was enhanced, and client gained the agility needed to better respond to future demand without an increase in manual effort.
