Sutherland Shatters Annual Goal

ROCHESTER, NEW YORK – JULY 15, 2019 – Sutherland, the process transformation company, in partnership with the Champion Academy, Roland Williams’ Extreme Mentoring and Empowerment Initiative, announced that its employee volunteers completed more than 400 classroom check-ups during the 2018-19 school year.

The classroom check-ups help support effective classroom behavior management. Champion Academy serves hundreds of teens in poverty facing the most significant barriers to future success. The teens are full-time students in grades 8-12. Champion Academy’s Extreme Mentoring and Empowerment Model gives teens the intensive, long-term support they need to improve academically and behaviorally to maximize their potential in school, at home and in the community, graduate from high school, and become positive and productive citizens.

With the help of companies like Sutherland, Champion Academy enlists volunteers to mentor students, hold monthly meetups, and visit student “champions” at local schools.

Sutherland has partnered with Champion Academy for the past four years, with employees volunteering their time to serve as coaches during the annual summer orientation to Champion Academy’s yearlong programming, as well as to observe students during weekly classroom check-ups. During the 2017-18 school year, Sutherland set and surpassed the goal for employees to participate in 300 classroom check-ups. This year, employees were challenged to complete 100 more, and exceeded the goal by completing 412 check-ups in total.

“We are proud to support the Champion Academy and the work that they do to impact lives in the community through education intervention and investment in local youth. Sutherland’s mission is to successfully impact thousands of individuals in the community in every country where we do business. Partnering with organizations like Champion Academy helps to make this mission a reality,” said Dan Lang, Senior Vice President at Sutherland.

“Sutherland’s unwavering support and generosity has been a source of positive energy and inspiration for every student and staff member at Champion Academy. Sutherland’s employee volunteers are worth their weight in gold,” said Veronica Wilson, Partnerships Manager at Champion Academy.

Champion Academy’s summer orientation begins on July 15 at the Northeast / Northwest Schools Campus on 940 Fernwood Park in Rochester. Roland Williams, Champion Academy staff, and an army of volunteer coaches will welcome more than 300 students to the 10-day training to introduce them to its award-winning Extreme Mentoring and Empowerment Model.
